Abstract: |
Nascent entrepreneurs who can mobilize high-quality social network are more likely to succeed in new venture formation. Extant literature has not provided reasonable explanations on what kind of entrepreneurs may mobilize high-quality network. Different from the prior research that focused on stock of experience, it addressed the relationship between the entrepreneurs’ status in previous working place and their networking behavior, as well as the moderation effects of the content of experience and gender difference. Based on Chinese Panel Study of Entrepreneurial Dynamics (CPSED) dataset, it finds that high status experience is the antecedent to high-reputation network mobilization, which may interact according to the content of experience and gender difference. When entrepreneurs have multiple functional experiences, the relationship between status and networking behavior is weakened. Further, when the entrepreneur is male, this negative moderation is weakened. It offers insights into antecedents of entrepreneurs’ social networking behavior and provides significant guidance for entrepreneurs in accumulating experience in order to access social capital. |
